Married to the daughter of the family he lodged with (originally he was from Hartlepool)his wife was Elizabeth Ellen Bunn(b1882) and they had three daughters Sarah Elizabeth Hazel(b1906) the eldest,Edith Evelyn Hazel(b1908) and Nora Louise Hazel(b1912)His father was James Llares Hazel. Both families originated from Norfolk

Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

this is my great grandfather on my mothers side - Joseph hazel was killed on the somme July 1916 leaving behind his wife Elizabeth Ellen Hazel(nee Bunn) and three young daughters - the youngest was Nora Louise Hazel aged only four when Joseph died. Prior to the war he had worked on Middlesbrough docks unloading the ships.
