Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

I am an archaeologist interested in First World War Orkney, working on a project called Remembering Wartime Westray which will examine the militarisation of the Home Fronts of Westray / Papa Westray during the FWW. There will be a poster and leaflet produced for the end of May with workshops to gather local memories and document objects from the period over the summer. For this, I am interested because some places say the SS Birka was torpedoed and others say it ran aground. Also, I presume Betty Raag is a female, which is interesting in itself. Cheers
