Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

researching my Whyte/White ancestry. If these two people are who I think they are, then they are my 4x great grandparents, George Whyte b 2 May 1761 to Walter & Mary Cochran Whyte, and his wife known to us as Janet Scobie. Married 2 April 1786, in Barony, Lanark, Scotland. Their son, Moses Whyte b Oct 1804 came to America in 1819. Starting the American branch oh the family when he married Olive Main in Maine 1825. There is a burial stone at Balnakiel for a George Whyte-need to solve the riddle. Happy Hunting! Shelley J Clay

I work in the Heritage Centre at Rutherglen Library and am keen to get a copy of the people listed on this gravestone as am researching a display on Mining which includes the Whyte family from Rutherglen. The stone is currently very hard to read the writing on when you visit in person. Many Thanks, Zen Boyd Librarian (Information Services) Rutherglen Library & Heritage Centre
