Thomas Spurdance or Spurdans was burnt at Bury in November 1557 as a martyr under Bloody Mary, he was the son of John Spurdans Taylor of Codenham, who was my Great Grandfather X 12. Regards Russ Spurdens.

I'm researching my mother's Spurdens/Spurdance/Spurdaunce family of East Anglia and Essex. There is a missing link between Richard (S)purdaunce, Mayor of Norwich in the 1400's and the family that appears again in Norfolk and Suffolk in the 1650's. We have traced the family to Bury St. Edmunds during that period and this could be an important record as very few gravestones have survived from this period. Not sure how I can help as I'm on the other side of England but if you would like inforamtion about the family please let me know.
