Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

My father was Walter David Weddington who was born in 1925 and died last fall at the age of 91. I've been researching our family history and, with a lot of help from other kind souls like yourself, I've been able to trace our lineage back to Richard de Wadyngton, born abt 1379 - my 17th great grandfather. He, as well as his descendants that are in my direct line lived in the Halifax area of Yorkshire before two brothers, William and John, came to the US. In our branch of the family tree, the spelling of the name changed to Weddington with William Addison Weddington b 1808. His grandfather, William Waddington, b 1740, along with his brother John, immigrated to the US around 1760. They were instrumental in settling the part of North Carolina that is now Cabarrus County near where I live now. I'm requesting a photo of the gravestone of Samuel Waddington, who died in 1784. I believe he was the father of those two young Waddington men who made that long journey. If so, he is my 7th great grandfather. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the time and effort that you put into this project. You make it possible to learn about our family even from very far away. Thank you so much! Elizabeth Weddington Grimm Mooresville, NC, US
