family search

I am researching this man's family which is sometimes presented as Fetherstonhaugh or Featherston or Featherstonhaugh. There is an interesting case from the Court of Chivalry edited by Richard Cust and Andrew Hopper for British History Online as Kings of Arms v Fetherstone. The heraldic arms in question were Gules a chevron between three ostrich feathers argent. Henry Fetherstone was accused of using these arms which belonged to his cousin Ralph Fetherstonhaugh of Stanhope Hall in the parish of Stanhope in County Durham Esquire.Henry had purchased Hassingbrook in about 1629 and built Hassingbrook Hall soon after. It would be genealogically useful to see what arms were being used by his descendants. The remaining content of the monumental inscription would be intersting too.
