Sir John McLaren is my great great uncle

I have finally received the adoption papers for my late husband John Nelson, my childhood sweetheart, only to discover he is the son of Henry James, known as Jimmy, McLaren by his family 1884 – 1947. Jimmy’s death certificate states he died aged only 63, was a company director of the McLaren company and was unmarried and with no acknowledged children. My husband John was born in Drax in 1941 and was adopted by the Nelson family who ran the pub the New Inn in Tholthorpe Yorkshire in 1945. The family moved to New Zealand in 1963. John’s first job was at the railways then as a diesel mechanic. Because of his love of trains when in his 30’s he started one of NZ largest Hobby shops, Hobby City Limited and at home he built an amazing very large model railway in N Gauge. We visited England in 2010 and spent a day at the Dorset steam festival. The day was spent admiring all the steam and diesel products, being John’s passion. If only he had known then the amazing display of engines etc was in his blood line, as the products on display were of his Father’s and Grandfather’s company, J & H McLaren limited.
