Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

Family History research on the Sowray family. Mary's surname before marriage is almost certainly Sowray. The daughter of Thomas Sowray and Mary Garbutt. Thanks in advance Chris

Family history research into the Sowray Family. One of my ancestors is Mary Sowray (born approx 1827) who married William Jackson a school master in Kirkbymoorside in 1845 and was disinherited as a result. I am trying to find out how exactly how she is related to the Sowray family in Kirkbymoorside. Mary Hare on this gravestone was born Mary Sowray and the daughter of Thomas Sowray a draper and shop owner in Kirbymoorside who may I suspect was the grandfather of the Mary I am researching. Unfortunately solving this one has been my biggest brick wall ever. The Marriage was by license and both William and Mary gave false details and either no or incorrect information on their parents. Probably as William's father (also William Jackson a school master in Kirkbymoorside) was also the local registar of BMD. Sorry I am probably too far from Kirkbymoorside to be of much help to you. I live near Kendal, Cumbria. With thanks Chris Holroyd
