I am researching soldiers of the Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards) and would be grateful for copies of his grave monument. Wiles attested with the Yorkshire Regiment and served with the 1st Battalion in Gibraltar and South Africa during the Boer War. He was a great foot-baller and a marksman. He was Wounded in Action on the 18th February 1900 at the Battle of Paardeburg, where the Yorkshire Regiment suffered the highest number of casualties (160) of any British Regiment. He Died of Wounds on the 5th July 1900 at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, England. He was awarded the Queens South Africa Medal with two clasps: Relief of Kimberley and Paardeburg.
