Honourable Basil Cochrane1826731753first name on monumentfrom The Scottish Nation by William Anderson published 1863: The Hon Basil Cochrane the sixth son [of the 8th Earl of Dundonald] was placed on the Madras civil establishment in 1769 and on his return to Britain in May 1807 he purchased the barony of Auchterarder in Perthshire He published the following works: An Improvement in the Mode of Administering the Vapour Bath and in the Apparatus connected with it; with Plans and Estimates of fixed and Portable Baths for Hospitals and Private Houses and some Practical Suggestions on the Efficacy of Vapour in Application to Various Diseases in the Human Frame and as it may be beneficial to the Veterinary Art of Medicine - he married Caroline Gosling

Reasons why the image for this monument was requested

I'm researching the names of the natural children Hon Basil Cochrane is said to have sired in India,especially a son who became an army major & had a son called Alexander Surjant Cochrane 1843-1907.I would like to find the grave of my grandfather Charles Basil Cochrane,died spring 1927,son of A.S.Cochrane & Eleanor ( they eloped aged 17 & 18 )They appear on the census later, living in baker sq.London I think,now aged 38 & 39 with 2 sons 19 & 20.The younger one being my grandfather.
My maiden name is Cochrane and I am researching my family line back to the Cochranes of Dundonald from which I am descended.
