The daughter of Thomas and Anne Lewis, she moved to Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, sometime between the birth of her siblings Richard in 1851 and Rebecca in 1854, where she remained for the rest of her life. She married Tom Atkinson on New Year's Day 1868, and together they had at least six children, two of whom are also known to be interred in Linthorpe Cemetery: Edith Mary, who died aged three-and-a-half just five months before her mother and lies in the grave directly opposite, and Elizabeth Ann, who died in 1948 and is buried with her husband, William Henry Knott, towards the north-east corner of the site.
Tom Atkinson Thomas Atkinson was born in 1844, (reportedly on 14 July), in Middlesbrough to Robert and Elizabeth. After the death of his first wife, Mary Ann, he married a Scottish widow from Glasgow, Mary Watson (nee Connelly) in Middlesbrough in 1891, where he died in 1907.
