He worked with his father as a blacksmith in Street Lyddon, Halghton, Hanmer, Flintshire and continued to live there after the death of his father in 1891 with his sister Eliza. After her death the following year he married a widow, Jane Gould and they moved to Ellesmere, Shropshire when he retired.
