St Wilfrid's Church burial ground, Alford
The church is over 650 years old and is in a prominent position set rather high above street level in the charming wolds market town of Alford. There is a small room over the south porch called the Parvis Room. It was used as the first Alford Grammar School. One of the pupils who attended was said to be John Smith who was later saved from death by Pocahontas and also became Virginia’s first governor. The Church is well polished and scrupulously clean, with a light and bright appearance.
The GPR holds 165 grave and 197 person records for the burial ground.
