Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

How can I find a name if I only have part of it?

If you only know part of a name then the GPR search system can help.

For instance, if you know the surname but only have an initial then the GPR will display all the names with that surname starting with that initial.

Thus it is often better to input less detail when searching for specific names. For example, there are a number of different ways a particular forename is spelt. The name Susannah does vary and so it can be a good strategy to search with just Su. If you use the name Susannah, you would not find any with the spelling Susanna. The same applies to surnames.

Have a go searching for Su Sadler and then for Su Sad. You will see that you get Susan as well as the different Susanna's.

Please be aware that if you use too short a name then you may get too many results.

Also be aware that these powerful search facilities are only available when you use the full name search.
